Reds 7, Pirates 5: Mike Leake worked 6 2/3 strong innings and hit a two-run homer as Cincinnati evened the series with visiting Pittsburgh.

Todd Frazier added a go-ahead two-run homer for the Reds, who came out on the losing end of a 10-homer barrage in the opener of the series. Leake (2-1) allowed three runs and struck out eight while adding a double among two hits for Cincinnati, and Jonathan Broxton got Andrew McCutchen to pop out with the tying run on base to lock up his first save.

Neil Walker homered among his two hits and Gaby Sanchez had two hits and drove in a run for the Pirates, who managed only Walker’s blast after bashing six in the first game. Gerrit Cole (2-1) was charged with five runs on nine hits and three walks in six innings to suffer the loss for Pittsburgh.

The Pirates jumped in front on Sanchez’s RBI single in the second but Leake doubled and scored on Joey Votto’s single to tie it in the fourth. Leake helped Pittsburgh go ahead again when his throwing error trying to start a double play allowed Andrew McCutchen to easily trot home from third base on the fielder’s choice in the fourth.

Frazier, who also had a two-run blast in Monday’s game, lined another two-run shot into the stands in right off Cole in the sixth to put the Reds in front and Leake followed later in the inning and belted a 2-1 fastball out to left for his third career home run. Devin Mesoraco’s two-run single in the seventh made it a 7-3 gap before Walker’s two-run shot into the second deck in left tightened things in the eighth.
