Royals 8, Indians 2: James Shields struck out nine over six sensational innings and Eric Hosmer had four hits and scored three times as visiting Kansas City evened its four-game series with Cleveland at a win apiece.

Shields (2-2) limited the Indians to two runs - one earned - on six hits while lowering his ERA to 1.91. Mike Moustakas belted a three-run homer, Billy Butler went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Alex Gordon added a two-run double.

Danny Salazar (0-3) continued his early season struggles, charged with five runs - four earned - on seven hits over 4 1/3 frames. Michael Bourn and Yan Gomes each had two hits and an RBI for the Indians, who fell to 2-3 on their seven-game homestand.

Bourn put the Indians up 1-0 in the second on a bases-loaded single to right, but the Royals countered with four in the fourth. Hosmer and Butler opened with singles and came around to score on Moustakas' home run into the Kansas City bullpen, and the Royals manufactured another run on Jarrod Dyson's drag-bunt single that scored Alcides Escobar from third.

Kansas City extended the lead in the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Hosmer and Butler - ending Salazar's night in the process - and countered Gomes' run-scoring double to left in the sixth with Hosmer's RBI two-base hit to left in the seventh. Gordon capped the rout with a double off the center-field wall in the ninth that scored Hosmer - who had singled for his fourth hit - and Justin Maxwell.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Moustakas' home run was the first Salazar had allowed to a left-handed hitter all season. ... Kansas City improved to 10-0 when scoring more than three runs. ... Indians 3B Carlos Santana went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts to see his average tumble to .136.
