Athletics 6, Indians 1 (1st): Scott Kazmir pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings against his former team as Oakland defeated visiting Cleveland in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Alberto Callaspo belted a two-run homer among two hits while Brandon Moss, Yoenis Cespedes and Jed Lowrie each recorded a pair of hits and an RBI for the Athletics. Kazmir (1-0) allowed three hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter in his first game with Oakland after going 10-9 with the Indians in 2013.

Jason Kipnis had a pair of hits and scored on a Carlos Santana single in the ninth for Cleveland, which beat the Athletics 2-0 in the season opener Monday. Indians starter Corey Kluber (0-1) gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings to lose the first time in his last 13 appearances, dating back to last season.

Coco Crisp singled, stole second and later trotted home on an RBI single to right field by Cespedes with two out in the first inning. The Athletics loaded the bases with none out in the second and plated two more on a sacrifice fly by Crisp and Lowrie’s two-out single.

Callaspo hit his first homer of the season to right on the first pitch he saw from Kluber in the third to make it 5-0 after Josh Reddick walked. Derek Norris finished with three singles, Moss added an RBI double in the sixth and Dan Otero got the final five outs for the Athletics.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crisp’s steal was his 142nd with the Athletics, moving him within two of Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson for fifth on the franchise’s all-time list. … The Indians were 36-20 against left-handed starters last year - best in the majors - before dropping their first of 2014 against Kazmir. … Oakland manager Bob Melvin challenged a close play at the plate in the second inning, but replay did not overturn the umpire’s out call.
