Braves 5, Padres 3: Freddie Freeman collected three hits and an RBI while Chris Johnson drove in two runs as Atlanta halted its two-game losing streak.

Julio Teheran (10-6) allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings and three relievers bridged the gap to Craig Kimbrel, who struck out the side in the ninth to register his 31st save - tying St. Louis' Trevor Rosenthal for the major-league lead. Tommy La Stella also recorded three hits and Teheran added an RBI for the Braves, who pulled within 1 1/2 games of first-place Washington in the National League East.

Seth Smith went 3-for-3 and Yasmani Grandal plated two runs for San Diego, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. Odrisamer Despaigne (2-2) threw 89 pitches over 3 2/3 innings, yielding five runs - two earned - on six hits and a career-high five walks.

Atlanta trailed 2-1 before sending nine batters to the plate and scoring four times in the fourth. After Jason Heyward and Evan Gattis opened the inning by drawing back-to-back walks, Johnson singled in a run and scored on Teheran’s suicide squeeze before La Stella and Freeman delivered RBI singles.

The Padres cut into the lead in the fifth as Chris Nelson hit a leadoff double and scored on Yangervis Solarte’s two-out single. Solarte moved to third as Smith followed with a base hit, but Teheran struck out Grandal to end the inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego activated 1B Yonder Alonso from the disabled list and optioned OF Jake Goebbert to Triple-A El Paso. … The Braves recalled Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace fellow INF Tyler Pastornicky, who was optioned to the minors following Friday’s game. … Solarte and Nelson had two hits apiece for the Padres, who lost for the third time in their last 11 games against Atlanta.
