Marlins 1, Braves 0: Jose Fernandez outdueled Alex Wood, firing eight shutout innings as visiting Miami recorded its first road victory of the season.

Fernandez (3-1) matched a career high with 14 strikeouts and surrendered just three hits with no walks as the Marlins snapped a season-opening seven-game losing streak away from home. Casey McGehee’s fourth-inning single plated the game’s only run, and Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

Wood (2-3) threw 75 of his 101 pitches for strikes in an outstanding effort, allowing one run on four hits in eight innings with no walks and a career-high 11 strikeouts. The two teams combined for 28 strikeouts and no walks.

Fernandez allowed a leadoff single to Jason Heyward in the first, but retired the next nine hitters before B.J. Upton reached on McGehee’s error in the fourth. Fernandez responded by retiring 11 in a row before giving up singles to Chris Johnson and Andrelton Simmons in the eighth, but got pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit to ground out to the mound to end the frame.

Giancarlo Stanton doubled to left with one out in the fourth and scored on McGehee’s single to center. It was just enough support as the Marlins finished with only four hits and struck out 13 times, but Christian Yelich finished 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Fernandez has struck out 47 batters this season, tops in the majors, and has 24 strikeouts with no walks in 15 innings in his past two starts. … The Braves have scored two runs or less in three of Wood’s five starts. … Cishek has converted 33 consecutive save opportunities.
