Braves 10, Nationals 2: Justin Upton hit his fourth homer in four days and Freddie Freeman added a homer and four RBIs as host Atlanta completed a sweep of Washington.

Andrelton Simmons had a three-run blast as the Braves extended their early-season dominance of the Nationals, improving to 5-1 against Washington and moving past the Nationals into first place in the NL East. Aaron Harang (2-1) posted his third consecutive strong start for Atlanta, holding the Nationals to one run on five hits in six innings, and Upton, Freeman, Simmons and B.J. Upton each finished with two hits.

Bryce Harper recorded two hits and walked twice and Kevin Frandsen added two hits for the Nationals. Gio Gonzalez (2-1) surrendered six runs – all coming in the first two innings – on nine hits with four walks in six innings.

The Braves, who scored four runs against the Nationals in the first inning Saturday, started quickly again in the series finale. Freeman’s sacrifice fly plated the first run of the first and Justin Upton’s two-run blast to center made it 3-0.

Atlanta added three runs in the second on Jason Heyward’s double off the wall in deep right-center and Freeman’s high-arching two-run homer deep into the right-field seats. The Nationals pushed across a run in the fifth on Jose Lobaton’s groundout, but Harang stranded a runner in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth, and the Braves capped the rout with Freeman’s RBI double and Simmons’ three-run homer to center in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington OF Nate McLouth was a late scratch from the lineup for undisclosed reasons. … Washington called up INF Zach Walters from Triple-A Syracuse to replace 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the roster, after Zimmerman fractured his right thumb Saturday. … The Braves went 6-for-11 in the first two innings with two homers, two triples and a double.
