Red Sox 3, Rays 2:
David Ortiz slugged a three-run homer and six pitchers combined on a five-hitter as visiting Boston snapped a five-game slide and ended Tampa Bay's winning streak at nine games.

Allen Webster (1-0), who was recalled to make the start when the Red Sox traded away Jake Peavy on Saturday, allowed two runs on three hits and five walks in 5 1/3 innings. Daniel Nava and Dustin Pedroia both had two hits and a run scored for Boston, which finished its road trip at 2-5.

Chris Archer (6-6) was hurt only by the Ortiz homer, giving up three runs and six hits in six innings to get tagged with a tough loss. Desmond Jennings had a two-run double to pace the attack for the Rays, whose winning streak fell three shy of matching the franchise mark established in 2004.

Ortiz struck out with two men on in the first inning but followed a walk and a single in the third with a blast to right, his 25th. Tampa Bay provided a quick answer in the bottom half of the frame as Jennings drove a shot into gap in left-center field to plate a pair.

Webster worked around two of his walks in the fourth and got a double play to end the fifth before departing with one out into the sixth. Andrew Miller worked around a leadoff walk in the seventh, Junichi Tazawa fanned two in a perfect eighth and Koji Uehara struck out the side after a leadoff hit in the ninth for his 21st save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ortiz has reached 25 home runs in 10 of his 12 seasons with the Red Sox, trailing only Ted Williams (14) on the franchise list. ... Boston won for the first time in six tries at Tampa Bay this season and improved to 37-0 when leading after eight innings. ... The Red Sox return home to host Toronto for three games beginning Monday. The Rays welcome Milwaukee to town.
