Mariners 4, Orioles 3: Chris Young gave up two hits over seven scoreless innings as Seattle edged visiting Baltimore to halt its four-game losing streak.
Dustin Ackley doubled twice and scored both times as the Mariners improved to 3-6 since the All-Star break. Logan Morrison and All-Stars Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager each recorded run-scoring hits for Seattle.
Young (9-6) matched a season best with eight strikeouts and walked three en route to his first win since July 2. All-Star and American League saves leader Fernando Rodney worked around a one-out walk in the ninth for his 200th career save and 28th this season.
Seattle pushed across three runs in the third inning after loading the bases with one out against Bud Norris (8-7), who allowed four runs and six hits in five frames. Kendrys Morales was hit by a pitch to force in the first run while Seager and Morrison delivered RBI singles later in the frame.
Ackley and Cano hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth to increase the lead to 4-0. The Orioles cut the deficit to one in the eighth, when Seattle third baseman Seager booted Chris Davis’ grounder to allow two runs to score and J.J. Hardy added a run-scoring single to left field.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Orioles 3B Manny Machado was 0-for-4 in his return after missing four games with back soreness. … Seattle RF Endy Chavez was scratched due to a jammed pinky finger on his left hand. … DH Delmon Young recorded two of Baltimore’s three hits and was at the plate with two outs in the ninth when Rodney alertly noticed David Lough attempting to steal and threw him out at second to conclude the game.
