Diamondbacks 6, Padres 1: Josh Collmenter breezed through seven innings on the mound and drove in the go-ahead run as visiting Arizona cooled off San Diego.

Collmenter (10-7) allowed one run and five hits while striking out three in his third straight strong outing as the Diamondbacks won for the third time in nine games. David Peralta recorded two RBIs while Miguel Montero and Chris Owings each drove in a run for Arizona.

Andrew Cashner (2-7) was reached for four runs - two earned - on five hits while striking out five in seven innings as the Padres fell for the second time in eight games. Seth Smith doubled in a run among two hits and Alexi Amarista recorded a pair of hits for San Diego.

Padres rookie right fielder Rymer Liriano took a curious root to Peralta’s hard grounder to right-center in the first inning and the ball made it all the way to the wall for an RBI triple. San Diego got that run back on Smith’s double down the right-field line in the third but let things slip away in the fifth.

Collmenter sent a grounder to second with runners on second and third and the throw home beat Alfredo Marte, who narrowly avoided the tag on a play that was reviewed. Inciarte followed with another fielder’s choice that ended up scoring a run when third baseman Yangervis Solarte couldn't handle a throw from catcher Rene Rivera during a rundown, and Peralta’s single to center scored Collmenter to cap the three-run rally.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Diamondbacks RH Daniel Hudson made his first major-league appearance since 2012 after battling back from two Tommy John surgeries and worked a scoreless eighth inning. … Collmenter is 2-0 with a 0.83 ERA and a total of 11 hits allowed in 21 2/3 innings over his last three starts. … Smith’s two hits were one more than his total from the previous nine games.
