Diamondbacks 2, Reds 1 (15):
Nick Ahmed singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 15th inning to lift Arizona in a marathon opener of a three-game set in Cincinnati.

J.J. Hoover (1-8) issued a one-out walk in the 15th to Martin Prado, who took second on Didi Gregorius' groundout and scored when Ahmed laced a single to left. Ahmed, Gregorius and Mark Trumbo each had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who improved to 13-1 all-time in games lasting at least 15 innings.

Devin Mesoraco homered among two hits for the Reds, who have not won a game started by a pitcher other than Johnny Cueto since July 11. The Diamondbacks' bullpen turned in eight scoreless innings with Oliver Perez (1-1) pitching two frames for the win and Addison Reed working around a two-out walk in the 15th for his 25th save.

Mesoraco hit a towering solo shot in the second, taking advantage of one of rookie Chase Anderson's few mistakes to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. The Reds might have added to the lead that inning, but Ender Inciarte gunned down Brayan Pena at the plate for the Diamondbacks' league-leading 30th outfield assist to shut down the rally.

Arizona tied it on Miguel Montero's RBI single in the fourth and had a chance to take the lead in the seventh but held Montero at third on Gregorius' single to center before Ahmed hit into an inning-ending double play. Anderson matched his career high with eight strikeouts over seven strong innings, allowing one run and three hits and retiring the last 11 batters he faced, while Cincinnati's Homer Bailey yielded one run and five hits over eight innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill was not in the starting lineup for the second straight game since being hit on the right hand by a pitch but flied out as a pinch-hitter in the 15th. … Inciarte (0-for-6) had his hitting streak snapped at seven games and Prado (0-for-5) saw his six-game streak come to an end. … Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman struck out the side while hitting 104 mph in the ninth, his 44th consecutive appearance with at least one strikeout.
