Parker Meadows hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th as the Detroit Tigers topped the New York Yankees 3-2 in the annual MLB Little League Classic at Williamsport, Pa., on Sunday night.
Jace Jung drove in the tying run with two outs in the ninth for his first major league RBI. Meadows had three hits and Colt Keith also supplied three hits to go along with a run for the Tigers.
In the top of the 10th, DJ LeMahieu sent Beau Brieske's first pitch to right for a single, bringing home automatic runner Anthony Volpe.
Detroit scored twice in the bottom of the inning without making an out. Automatic runner Trey Sweeney scored on pinch hitter Zach McKinstry's single. McKinstry stole second before Meadows ripped his single to left to bring him home.
Brieske (2-3) picked up the win. Detroit starter Tarik Skubal gave up one run on three hits while walking four and striking out five in six innings.
Yankees starter Marcus Stroman tossed six scoreless innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out five.
Mark Leiter Jr. (3-5) took the loss.
The best scoring chance for either team in the first five innings came in the bottom of the fifth. Jung drew a leadoff walk and Meadows then lined a two-out double into the left-center-field gap. Jung tried to score on the play but was easily thrown out at the plate.
The scoreless deadlock was broken in the next inning after Skubal issued back-to-back walks to Gleyber Torres and Juan Soto. Aaron Judge then bounced into a double play, but, with Giancarlo Stanton batting, Torres scored on a wild pitch.
Riley Greene reached first on a wild pitch after striking out while leading off the bottom of the inning. Keith hit a two-out single to move Greene to second, but Spencer Torkelson flied out to leave the runners stranded.
The Tigers' Will Vest struck out the side in the eighth, including Soto and Judge.
In the bottom of the ninth, Keith smacked an opposite-field double with one out. Yankees closer Clay Holmes then struck out Torkelson before Jung laced his single to left to score Keith and tie the contest.
