Josh Rojas, Dylan Moore and Victor Robles smacked successive home runs in a first-inning barrage and George Kirby delivered seven solid innings as the visiting Seattle Mariners routed the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Friday.
Seattle snapped a three-game losing streak while sending Chicago to its 12th straight loss. The outcome was all but decided after the Mariners updated their team annals in an eight-run first inning against White Sox rookie right-hander Drew Thorpe.
Scoring all of the runs with two outs, Seattle rolled to its highest-scoring first inning since a nine-run output in July 2023. The Mariners cracked back-to-back-to-back home runs for the first time since June 2022 and the first time ever in the opening inning.
Thorpe (3-2) retired the first batter of the night before a Cal Raleigh double and two walks loaded the bases. He struck out Luke Raley, but the Mariners responded with five straight RBI hits.
Jason Vosler's two-run single opened the scoring. Mitch Garver added an RBI double, Rojas belted a three-run shot to right, and Moore and Robles followed with solo homers.
Thorpe allowed eight runs and six hits in two-thirds of an inning. His season ERA climbed from 3.03 to 4.81.
Kirby (8-7) cruised behind the early support, limiting the White Sox to six hits and a walk while striking out seven. The result ended his four-start winless streak.
Tommy Pham hit an eighth-inning double among his three hits for Chicago, which fell to 52 games under .500.
Kirby retired the side in order just once, in the fourth inning.
Jorge Polanco hit a two-run homer against White Sox reliever Jared Shuster in the fourth inning. Shuster and fellow left-hander Sammy Peralta scattered two runs, five hits and four walks in 8 1/3 innings. They fanned a total of six.
Garver collected three hits and Raleigh added two for the Mariners, who improved to 4-1 against the White Sox this season.
Chicago grounded into three double plays.
