Phillies 13, Mets 8: Domonic Brown and Michael Young bookended a seven-run third inning with home runs as visiting Philadelphia cruised past New York.

Chase Utley also went deep and finished with three RBIs for the Phillies (49-48), who have won nine of their last 12 games to crawl over .500 for the first time since June 6. Kyle Kendrick (9-6) baffled the Mets early but struggled thereafter, yielding six runs while striking out a season-high seven over 5 2/3 innings.

Jeremy Hefner (4-7) entered Friday with a 1.76 ERA over his last eight starts, but was pounded for a career-high eight runs over two-plus innings to fall to 2-3 with a 13.74 ERA in his career against Philadelphia. Marlon Byrd hit a three-run homer in the fourth and David Wright added a two-run shot in the ninth for the Mets.

The Phillies handed Kendrick a four-run cushion before he took the mound, sparked by run-scoring hits from Utley and Brown, who also led off the third with a mammoth solo shot into the second deck in right. John Mayberry Jr. ended Hefner’s outing with an RBI double.

Carlos Ruiz greeted Greg Burke with another run-scoring double to cap a stretch of five straight hits by Philadelphia before Young tagged the Mets’ reliever for a three-run homer to give the Phillies an 11-0 lead. Utley added his two-run shot in the fifth off Josh Edgin to account for Philadelphia’s final runs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kendrick fanned six Mets in his first time through the order – matching his previous season high for strikeouts in a game – but did not record another one until Byrd went down on strikes in the sixth. . … Utley’s homer was the 30th of his career against the Mets, five more than he has hit against any other opponent. … Hefner has allowed five runs or more in three of his five career starts against Philadelphia. He gave up five earned runs – his previous season high – against Philadelphia on April 10 and yielded seven runs – his previous career high – against the Phillies on Sept. 20, 2012, when he failed to record an out in a 16-1 home loss.
