Yankees 6, Angels 5: CC Sabathia pitched eight dominant innings and Travis Hafner clubbed a three-run homer as visiting New York withstood a ninth-inning rally to snap a five-game losing streak.

Sabathia (7-5) took a three-hit shutout into the ninth and was charged with two runs on five hits in eight-plus innings as the Yankees averted a three-game sweep and completed their 10-game road trip with a 4-6 mark.

David Robertson surrendered an RBI single to Mark Trumbo after Sabathia put the first two runners on base and loaded the bases to bring on Mariano Rivera. Baseball's all-time saves leader allowed a run-scoring grounder to Erick Aybar and RBI singles to Alberto Callaspo and Peter Bourjos before striking out Albert Pujols with the bases loaded to secure his 24th save.

Angels starter Jered Weaver (1-3) gave up five runs on seven hits in six innings to fall to 6-3 lifetime against the Yankees.

Weaver ran into trouble in the second inning when he issued a walk to No. 9 batter Chris Stewart and Brett Gardner followed with a single. Hafner, who was 0-for-23 in his previous six games, followed with a three-run blast before Lyle Overbay had an RBI double and scored on Jayson Nix's single to complete the five-run uprising.

Pujols went 0-for-4 and stranded five runners to snap his six-game hitting streak. ... Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira had an MRI exam Sunday that revealed inflammation in his right wrist. Teixeira, who missed the first 53 games of the year while recovering from a torn sheath in the tendon of his wrist, had a cortisone shot and will be re-evaluated in a few days.
