Marlins 8, Twins 5 (2nd): Rob Brantly recorded three hits and knocked in a career-high four runs as visiting Miami defeated Minnesota to salvage a split of the day-night doubleheader.

Giancarlo Stanton added a double, a single and two RBIs as the Marlins collected a season-high 16 hits and snapped a three-game losing streak after suffering a 4-3 loss in the first game. Miami starter Ricky Nolasco (1-2) allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits over five innings and Steve Cishek pitched the ninth for his second save.

Eduardo Escobar registered three hits and Joe Mauer added two for the Twins, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Minnesota starter Mike Pelfrey (2-2) allowed five runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Brantly’s two-run double with two out highlighted a three-run first inning for the Marlins. The lead expanded to 4-0 before the Twins scored on a wild pitch, Mauer’s RBI single and an error to close the gap to a run in the third.

Stanton doubled and Brantly plated him with another two-out, two-base hit in the fifth to push the lead to 5-3. Brantly and Chris Valaika added RBI singles in the seventh as the Marlins lead swelled to 7-4.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brantly recorded his fourth multi-hit game of the season and has six doubles -- three in his last two games. … Minnesota INF Jamey Carroll earned his first RBI of the season with a single in the sixth and has three hits in his last two starts. … Stanton’s two RBIs pushed his total to three, but the slugger is still without a home run in 2013.
