Athletics 7, Astros 5:
Josh Reddick drove in a pair during a six-run first inning and Bartolo Colon made it stand up with six strong innings as Oakland finished a three-game sweep of visiting Houston.

Seth Smith added three hits and Jed Lowrie had two hits and an RBI for the Athletics, who have taken all six meetings with the Astros in 2013. Colon (2-0) allowed one run and four hits in his third straight quality start.

Bud Norris (2-2) had been one of the few bright spots for Houston with a 1.96 ERA in three starts entering the day, but could not get out of the first inning in Oakland. The right-hander was reached for six runs on five hits and three walks while retiring two batters as his ERA rose to 4.74.

The Astros grabbed the lead on Chris Carter’s RBI fielder’s choice in the first but quickly watched it slip away in the bottom of the frame. Chris Young knotted it with an RBI single and Reddick’s two-run double to right gave the Athletics the lead before Eric Sogard, Shane Peterson and John Jaso tacked on RBIs.

Carlos Pena hit a solo homer in the seventh and Marwin Gonzalez and Jose Altuve each added an RBI single before Ryan Cook came on and ended the threat. Cook struck out three in 1 1/3 innings and Grant Balfour yielded a solo homer to Rick Ankiel but got the final three outs to pick up his third save.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Astros bullpen coach Jeff Murphy injured his left knee and hamstring when the protective screen fell on top of him while pitching batting practice before the game. … Colon has yet to issue a walk in 19 total innings. … Peterson’s bases-loaded walk in the first marked his first career RBI, and the rookie recorded his first hit with a single in the fourth.
