Angels 8, Tigers 1:
Peter Bourjos had three hits and three RBIs and right-hander Tommy Hanson pitched six scoreless innings as host Los Angeles won the opener of the three-game series.

Hanson (2-1) pitched around six hits and four walks before the bullpen finished off the the top-hitting team in the American League. Albert Pujols contributed three hits and two RBIs for the Angels and Chris Iannetta, Mark Trumbo and Luis Jimenez recorded two hits apiece.

Miguel Cabrera had three hits and an RBI and Torii Hunter and Alex Avila contributed two hits each for the Tigers, who avoided getting shut out in back-to-back games when Cabrera delivered an RBI single with two outs in the ninth. Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez (2-1) allowed 11 hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings, and the Angels continued to hammer away at the Tigers’ bullpen, which had not allowed a run in its last 13 innings coming into the game.

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the third after Jimenez reached on an infield single and took second on a throwing error by shortstop Jhonny Peralta, only the second error of the season for the Tigers. Jimenez took third on a bunt single by Bourjos and came home on Mike Trout’s sacrifice fly to right, the first of his two RBIs.

The Angels tacked on another run in the fourth after Iannetta reached on a two-out infield single and took second on a wild pitch. Brendan Harris followed with a double to deep left to drive in Iannetta for a 2-0 lead and the Angels later blew the game open with a five-run eighth.

Kohn sat out last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. ... Angels RHP Ryan Madson, who also sat out last season after undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery, pitched to four batters in a simulated game Friday, the first time he has faced live batters since 2011. … Hunter, who played five seasons with the Angels before leaving via free agency last fall, received a standing ovation in his first at-bat.
