Reds 10, Phillies 0: Joey Votto went 4-for-4 – including a two-run homer – and reached base in all six plate appearances for the first time in his career while Bronson Arroyo tossed 7 2/3 solid innings as visiting Cincinnati evened its three-game series with Philadelphia.

Ryan Hanigan also homered, leading a strong effort by the bottom of the order for the Reds. Cincinnati’s No. 5-8 hitters (Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Donald Lutz and Hanigan) combined for seven hits, five runs and six RBIs, which was more than enough support for Arroyo (4-4).

Arroyo scattered five hits, struck out six and did not allow a runner past second base until the eighth, following up 6 2/3 scoreless innings in Sunday’s win over Milwaukee. After Arroyo walked a pair of batters in the eighth, reliever Alfredo Simon needed one pitch to strand runners on the corners and preserve the shutout.

Kyle Kendrick (4-2) took his first loss in eight turns after allowing four runs and eight hits over six frames. The right-hander wiggled out of a jam in the first, but fell behind 3-0 in the second. Following Frazier’s infield single – his first hit in 20 at-bats – and a single by Lutz, Hanigan turned on a sinker for his first homer.

Zack Cozart added an RBI double in the sixth before Cincinnati poured it on with four runs in the eighth, capped by run-scoring hits from Frazier and Lutz. Votto completed his memorable performance with a blast to center off reliever Chad Durbin in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati won for only the sixth time in its last 22 games in Philadelphia. …The Phillies were shut out at home for the fourth time this season and sixth time overall. … The Reds have outscored Philadelphia 29-9 in taking four of the five meetings.
