Royals 9, Indians 0: Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon homered and Jeremy Guthrie worked into the seventh inning as Kansas City blanked visiting Cleveland in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

Guthrie (3-0) allowed six hits over 6 2/3 innings and tied a franchise record by going 16 consecutive starts without a loss. Gordon and Jarrod Dyson had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Kansas City, which has won five of its last six games.

The Royals took an early 2-0 lead in the second on back-to-back RBI doubles by Jeff Francoeur and Dyson off Justin Masterson (4-2), who gave up seven runs on nine hits while striking out a season-high nine over 6 1/3 innings.

Dyson added a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning and Escobar put the Royals ahead 4-0 in the fifth with a solo homer down the left-field line. Kansas City drew clear with three runs in the seventh when they sent nine batters to the plate and capped the rally with Mike Moustakas’ bases-loaded walk.

Gordon blasted a solo homer in the eighth off Scott Barnes, giving the Royals 10 home runs in their last nine games. Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits for Cleveland, which has lost seven of their last eight games against Kansas City.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Masterson, who struck out five over the first three innings, saw his ERA balloon from 1.85 to 3.12. ... Moustakas walked three times and singled in his other at-bat. …Indians RHP Corey Kluber will face Kansas City LHP Will Smith in the second game of the doubleheader, scheduled to begin at 8:10 p.m. ET.
