Indians 3, White Sox 1:
Ryan Raburn doubled in a run and Danny Salazar dominated in limited duty as visiting Cleveland held off Chicago.

Salazar struck out nine in 3 2/3 scoreless innings before being removed with a pitch count of 78. Drew Stubbs and Michael Brantley each added an RBI for the Indians, who remained 1 1/2 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the second American League wild card.

Bryan Shaw (4-3) worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win in relief and Chris Perez was the last of seven out of the bullpen, stranding two runners in the ninth to earn his 24th save.

Asdrubal Cabrera singled and stole second base leading off the fourth before moving up on a flyout and coming in to score the first run on Stubbs’ bloop single to center. Cleveland put the first two batters on in the fifth against Hector Santiago (4-9) and Raburn plated Nick Swisher with an RBI double before Brantley’s sacrifice fly made it a 3-0 gap.

Chicago got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on Paul Konerko’s RBI single but could not avoid its 13th loss in 15 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Santiago was charged with three runs on six hits and three walks in four-plus innings. … Salazar, who has been held to around 80 pitches in his last few starts, is the first Indians starting pitcher since 1916 to strike out at least nine batters in less than four innings. … The White Sox have been held to a total of five runs during their four-game losing streak.
