Mariners 8, White Sox 7 (10): Kendrys Morales doubled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning as visiting Seattle blew a five-run lead before rallying to win the series opener with Chicago.

Morales’ double to right field plated Franklin Gutierrez, whose infield single started the 10th against Nate Jones (0-1). Gutierrez led off the game with a solo homer, and he doubled home two runs during a five-run fifth that staked Seattle to a 6-1 advantage.

Kameron Loe (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory. Tom Wilhelmsen walked three and allowed a run in the 10th, but struck out Tyler Flowers with the bases loaded for his second save. Gutierrez finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs as the Mariners finished with 12 hits.

Chicago rallied in the fifth for four runs, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios homered in the inning, and Rios’ groundout in the seventh scored Gordon Beckham to tie the game 6-6.

Both starters struggled. Seattle’s Blake Beavan allowed five runs on six hits in five innings while Jose Quintana surrendered six runs (five earned) on eight hits in four innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gutierrez’s homer was his third to lead off a game in his career. … Seattle’s Michael Morse, who homered four times in the Mariners’ first four games, finished 1-for-5 with a strikeout. … Chicago’s Adam Dunn flew out to the warning track in right with one out and one on in the 10th.
