Diamondbacks 8, Rockies 7: Aaron Hill highlighted a five-run sixth inning with a three-run triple as visiting Arizona handed Colorado its eighth straight loss.

Jason Kubel added two hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who remained 4 1/2 games behind St. Louis for the second wild-card spot in the National League with 11 contests remaining.

Trailing 5-3, Arizona loaded the bases against Carlos Torres (4-3) on a single and two walks before Hill hit a shot just out of reach of a diving Dexter Fowler in right-center field, clearing the bags and giving the Diamondbacks the lead. Kubel lifted a sacrifice fly and Chris Johnson added an RBI single to cap the uprising.

Brad Bergesen (2-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief of starter Patrick Corbin, who yielded five runs and nine hits over three frames. J.J. Putz struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 31st save in 36 opportunities.

Andrew Brown and Wilin Rosario hit solo home runs for the Rockies, who have dropped 15 of 17 and need to win five of their final 11 games to avoid their first 100-loss season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Four-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin threw out the ceremonial first pitch to a thunderous ovation. ... Diamondbacks C Miguel Montero made his 20th consecutive start. ... Rosario is tied with A.J. Pierzynski of the Chicago White Sox for the most homers by a catcher with 26.
