Diamondbacks 2, Dodgers 0:
Chris Young homered and Ian Kennedy worked into the seventh inning as visiting Arizona snapped its six-game losing streak.

Kennedy (12-11) yielded two hits and struck out seven over 6 1/3 innings for Arizona, which won its seventh straight against Los Angeles. The loss dropped the Dodgers 4 1/2 games behind National League West-leading San Francisco, while the Diamondbacks remained 9 1/2 games behind the Giants.

The Dodgers put runners at first and third with one out in the ninth inning before J.J. Putz earned his 27th save by retiring Luis Cruz and Juan Rivera on fly balls to end the game.

Arizona broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Miguel Montero led off with a double and scored on Young’s homer to left field off Clayton Kershaw (12-8), who was pulled after throwing 110 pitches over six innings with nine strikeouts.

Los Angeles has scored 11 runs during its seven-game losing streak against Arizona, and the Dodgers had just five hits in the opener of the four-game series.

Kennedy put two runners on base in the seventh before being replaced by Brad Ziegler, who induced an inning-ending double play that began with a diving stop by second baseman Aaron Hill.

The Dodgers fell to 14-25 in their last 39 home games, and the middle of their lineup - Adrian Gonzalez, Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez – went a combined 2-for-11.
