Tigers 5, Twins 1: Max Scherzer struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings and Miguel Cabrera reached 30 home runs for the sixth consecutive season as visiting Detroit won the rubber game of the series.

Scherzer (12-6) allowed only four hits and fanned at least 10 batters for the fourth time this season to surpass teammate Justin Verlander for the major league lead with 176 strikeouts. He retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced, including a stretch of 11 straight.

Cabrera homered for the second straight game and became the first Detroit player to hit 30 in five straight years while driving in a pair of runs to boost his major league-leading RBI total to 103.

Delmon Young also clubbed a two-run homer for the Tigers, who won only their seventh road series of the year and first since July 13-15 in Baltimore.

Twins rookie Cole De Vries (2-4) was roughed up for four runs on eight hits in four-plus innings to remain winless in his last eight starts.

Ben Revere had his third straight two-hit game of the series and scored his team's only run on Joe Mauer's RBI single in the eighth as Minnesota lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Cabrera clubbed his 30th homer in the first inning, an opposite-field solo shot, and Young went deep in the fourth inning to stake Scherzer to a 3-0 lead.
