Indians 5, Rangers 4: Jason Kipnis belted a two-run homer to cap a three-run uprising in the ninth inning as visiting Cleveland salvaged the finale of its three-game series with Texas.

After the Indians committed two of their three errors in the eighth inning to fall behind 4-2, Ezequiel Carrera greeted closer Joe Nathan (2-4) with a homer to lead off the ninth. Russ Canzler promptly singled before Kipnis finished the rally by crushing an inside fastball into the seats in right field for his 14th homer. The blasts ended Nathan's save streak at 31 consecutive opportunities.

Matt LaPorta went deep for the first time since Aug. 18, 2011 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. LaPorta had three hits for the Indians, who snapped a five-game losing skid with just their sixth win in 28 contests.

Michael Young collected three hits - including two RBI singles - and Adrian Beltre had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Rangers, who suffered just their third loss in their last 12 home games. The setback kept Texas' lead at three games in the American League West over Oakland, which dropped a 6-0 decision to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

Scott Maine (2-1) was credited with the win after inducing a double play to end the eighth inning. Chris Perez stranded Elvis Andrus at third base in the ninth for his 36th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas' Josh Hamilton did not play after receiving an injection for his sore left knee. Hamilton is expected to return when Texas opens a three-game series with Seattle. ... Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera will have his ailing right wrist examined at the Cleveland Clinic on Friday ... Nathan last blew a save on April 11.
