Mets 9, Giants 1: Ronny Cedeno matched a career high with five RBIs and Chris Young pitched seven strong innings as visiting New York clinched a series win over San Francisco.

Jason Bay added two RBIs and David Wright and Daniel Murphy each singled in a run for the Mets, who took three of four at AT&T Park to win their first series since before the All-Star break.

New York took care of things early, pounding Barry Zito (8-8) for four runs in the first inning.

Zito got two quick outs but walked a pair and hit a batter to load the bases. Bay made him pay with a two-run single and Cedeno followed with a drive to left that bounced off Melky Cabrera’s glove for a two-run double.

Zito ended up lasting just 4 1/3 innings and was charged with seven runs on six hits and three walks. The Giants have dropped seven of eight to see their lead over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West shrink to one-half game.

Young (3-5) picked up his first win since June 28 by holding San Francisco to one run on four hits. The tall right-hander struck out four and did not walk a batter, putting up only one three-ball count the entire afternoon.

Wright’s single in the second made it a 5-0 edge. Murphy and Cedeno each singled in a run in the fifth before Cedeno capped his big game with a two-run double in the seventh.

Cedeno last drove in five runs in a game on April 22, 2008, against the Mets, when he was a member of the Chicago Cubs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mets SS Ruben Tejada extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the eighth. … Cabrera went 3-for-4 for San Francisco, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Brandon Belt recorded the team’s only other hit. … The Giants activated RHP Shane Loux from the 15-day DL prior to the game. Loux allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings in relief of Zito. … New York expects to have RHP Frank Francisco back off the DL when it opens a three-game series at San Diego on Friday. … San Francisco kicks off a seven-game road trip at Colorado on Friday.
