Giancarlo Stanton blasted his 12th home run this month and the host Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Nationals to move a half-game out of first place in the NL East.

Josh Johnson (3-3) gave up three runs over six innings and improved to 8-0 lifetime against Washington. Heath Bell worked around two baserunners in the ninth inning for his 10th save and third in the series.

Stanton drove in two runs and has 30 RBIs this month for Miami, which went 21-8 in May for the winningest month in franchise history.

Roger Bernadina had two RBIs for Washington, which took a 3-1 lead after scoring twice in the top of the fourth.

Chien-Ming Wang (1-1) allowed four runs over four innings in his first start of the season. Ross Detwiler followed Wang with two scoreless frames.

John Buck broke a 3-all tie in the bottom of the fifth when his grounder scored Hanley Ramirez, and Stanton added an insurance run with his solo homer in the seventh off Ryan Perry.

The Nationals scored seven runs on 20 hits while going 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position during the series.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bryce Harper went 0-for-4 to snap his career-best nine-game hitting streak. … Ramirez went 3-for-4, but he was caught stealing twice by Nationals C Jhonatan Solano. …Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. … Miami recorded its first three-game sweep over the Nationals at home since 2009. …Stanton’s 12 home runs in May are tied for the most in a calendar month in club history.
