Reds 3, Braves 1: Brandon Phillips' RBI double broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth as visiting Cincinnati broke through for two runs against Atlanta's stingy bullpen.

After Phillips' hit to center off Jonny Venters (2-2), the Reds finished the scoring when Chris Heisey doubled home Phillips two batters later.

That was enough for the Reds' pitchers, who combined to hold Atlanta to one run and eight hits. The Braves, who entered the day leading the National League in runs scored, were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey rebounded from a disastrous start at Milwaukee to limit Atlanta to one run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings, and the Reds' dominant bullpen took over from there, with three relievers combining for 2 1/3 innings of two-hit ball.

Logan Ondrusek (3-0) recorded two outs, Aroldis Chapman struck out Jason Heyward to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and Sean Marshall worked around a leadoff single for his sixth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Reds relievers entered the game leading the National League in bullpen ERA (2.50), opponents' batting average (.212) and strikeouts (122). … Chapman's 18 1/3 innings are the most by any reliever who hasn't allowed a run. Ondrusek's 15 1/3 scoreless innings rank third on that list. … Heisey was 3-for-3 for his first three-hit game of the season and the fifth of his career. … The Braves slipped a half-game behind Washington in the National League East as the Nationals beat San Diego 8-5 on Monday.
