Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 2: Anthony Gose homered and drove in five runs and Yunel Escobar went deep to highlight a five-run second inning as visiting Toronto weathered a pair of pronounced rain delays to throttle Boston.

Adeiny Hechavarria had an RBI double and Gose followed with a two-run single. Rajai Davis capped the second-inning uprising with a sacrifice fly for the Blue Jays, who recorded their third win in a row.

Escobar started the onslaught by depositing a fastball from Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-5) just over the Green Monster for his ninth homer. Toronto was just getting started as it promptly put two runners aboard before Hechavarria's double to left plated Kelly Johnson.

Gose, who is Toronto's No. 9 hitter, doubled the advantage with a two-run single to center and advanced to third on Ryan Lavarnway's throwing error on a stolen base. Davis brought him home with a lazy fly to center.

Gose then capped the onslaught by blasting a three-run shot in the ninth inning.

Brad Lincoln (1-0) picked up the win after he retired all seven batters he faced in relief of starter Aaron Laffey, who exited the contest after the game's second rain delay.

Scott Podsednik and Pedro Ciriaco had RBI singles in the fifth inning for the Red Sox, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Matsuzaka fell to 7-1 in his career versus Toronto after getting tagged for five runs on as many hits in 1 1/3 innings. ... The first delay lasted 58 minutes as the Red Sox prepared to bat in the fourth inning. The second one spanned 65 minutes as Boston batted with two outs in the fifth.
