Kelly Johnson homered and Joe Saunders won for the first time this season to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-2 victory over the host Colorado Rockies on Tuesday for a split of a day-night doubleheader.

Johnson homered in the first inning and doubled during Arizona’s three-run sixth as the Diamondbacks won for the ninth time in 11 games.

Saunders (1-5) gave up two runs and six hits in eight innings to win for the first time in 10 starts. Saunders struck out four and walked one.

The only runs allowed by Saunders were on solo homers by Jason Giambi in the second inning and Ty Wigginton in the seventh.

J.J. Putz worked a perfect ninth for his 13th save in 13 opportunities to help send Colorado to its fourth loss in five games.

Stephen Drew and Miguel Montero joined Johnson by delivering run-scoring doubles off Jhoulys Chacin (5-3) in the sixth inning for the Diamondbacks. Chacin gave up five runs and five hits in seven innings.

Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and had four RBIs as the Rockies posted a 12-4 victory in the opener.
