Alex Presley tripled twice and scored a pair of runs, helping Pittsburgh break a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 road win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.

Presley tied the game for the Pirates at 1-1 in the third inning when he scored on an RBI single by Josh Harrison. Garrett Jones drove in the go-ahead run later in the frame on a ground-rule double against Ryan Dempster (10-11), and Jose Tabata added an insurance run when he plated Presley with a two-out base hit in the seventh.

Brian Burres (1-0) worked 5 1/3 innings for the victory. He allowed five hits, including a solo home run by Carlos Pena in the second, while finishing with five strikeouts and a walk. Four Pittsburgh relievers held the Cubs hitless the rest of the way, with Joel Hanrahan working the ninth inning for his 33rd save.

Dempster struck out nine and walked one while yielding three runs on seven hits, departing after Presley's second triple of the day with one out in the seventh inning.

Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen left the game in the first inning after being hit on the hand by a pitch.
