Rookie Mark Trumbo belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning and knocked in four as the Los Angeles Angels cruised to a 10-6 victory over the host Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The victory pulled the Angels to within 3 1/2 games of Boston in the American League wild card race. They remained five games behind Texas in the American League West. The Red Sox lost to Baltimore 7-5 on Tuesday, while Texas won at Oakland 7-2.

Alberto Callaspo contributed three hits and a pair of RBIs for the Angels. It was Callaspo’s first multiple-RBI game since Aug. 11 and his first RBI since Sept. 6. Vernon Wells added two hits, including a solo homer, and two RBIs against his former team.

Angels’ starter Joel Pineiro (7-7) allowed four runs in six-plus innings and won for the second time in his last three starts.

Scott Downs got the final out with two runners on for his first save of the season.

Toronto starter Brett Cecil (4-10) allowed four runs on six hits over three innings. He has lost six straight decisions and has not won since July 29.

Los Angeles' Erick Aybar stole home in the fourth when catcher J.P. Arencibia could not handle Kyle Drabek’s wide pitch on a suicide squeeze try. Peter Bourjos singled two pitches later to break a 0-for-17 slump and finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
