Hiroki Kuroda fell a little short of a no-hitter, but he was still able to outpitch Roy Halladay.

Kuroda took a no-hitter into the eighth and the Los Angeles Dodgers scratched out enough runs to post a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

Kuroda (10-11) allowed a hit and two walks with seven strikeouts. He did not allow a hit until Shane Victorino lined a single to right with one out and one on in the top of the eighth. Kuroda received a standing ovation from the crowd and stayed on to strike out Carlos Ruiz before turning things over to Hong-Chih Kuo, who recorded the final four outs for his seventh save of the season.

Kuroda, who also recorded his first hit of the season, is now 2-0 against Philadelphia this year.

The Dodgers scored a run in the first, second and fifth innings to halt Philadelphia's three-game win streak. James Loney had an RBI single in the first and Rod Barajas grounded into a double play in the second, allowing Casey Blake to score. Barajas added a solo home run to left in the fifth off Halladay to cap the scoring.

Halladay (16-10) allowed three runs and 10 hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out three.
