Andre Ethier’s grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning helped the Los Angeles Dodgers avoid the three-game sweep with a 7-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.

Ethier drove a pitch from LaTroy Hawkins (0-3) for his eighth walk-off hit since the start of last season. Jamey Carroll and Xavier Paul had singled and Matt Kemp drew a walk to bring Ethier to the plate with one out to set up the heroics.

Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton (2-0) picked up the win despite blowing the save in the top of the ninth.

Broxton allowed an RBI single to Greg Zaun and then watched as Prince Fielder came around to tie the game on an infield single up the middle by Craig Counsell that bounced off a pair of Dodgers’ infielders.

After James Loney hit a sacrifice fly in the first, Los Angeles took advantage of a second-inning error by Fielder for a pair of the runs and the 3-0 advantage. The Brewers got one back in the seventh on Zaun’s first RBI.

Rookie Jon Ely, making his second major-league start with the Dodgers, allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in the no-decision. At one point he retired 16 straight batters.
