Bronson Arroyo threw eight strong innings and Brandon Phillips and Chris Heisey hit home runs to help the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday.
Arroyo (9-4) allowed a solo home run to Angel Pagan in the first but he didn't give up much after that. He held the Mets to seven hits and didn't walk anyone.
Phillips tied it at 1-1 with his 12th homer, a solo shot in the third, and Heisey gave the Reds the lead with his fifth homer, another solo blast in the seventh, as the Reds took two of three to claim their fifth consecutive series.
Mets starter Jonathon Niese (6-3) allowed three runs on six hits, leaving with two outs in the eighth after Phillips' RBI double.
The Mets got the tying run on base with one out in the ninth but Francisco Cordero worked out of the jam for his 24th save in 29 opportunities.
Angel Pagan and Josh Thole had two hits apiece for the Mets, who had won six consecutive series at home.
