Jeanmar Gomez threw seven strong innings in his major-league debut and Jhonny Peralta hit an inside-the-park home run, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 7-2 victory and a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers on Sunday at Progressive Field.

Gomez (1-0) was called up from Triple-A Columbus to make a spot start in place of Justin Masterson, who had his next start pushed back to Tuesday.

The 22-year-old right-hander from Venezuela didn't disappoint, holding the Tigers to two unearned runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked one.

Peralta's inside-the-park homer came with two men on in the first inning. Center fielder Ryan Raburn tracked the fly ball to the wall, but he mistimed his jump and crashed through the bullpen gate. The ball caromed toward left field while Peralta circled the bases and slid in ahead of the relay.

That was the biggest blow against Detroit starter Andy Oliver (0-4), who allowed five runs over 3 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits and walked five.

Jayson Nix went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Michael Brantley was 2-for-4, and Matt LaPorta and Jason Donald each drove in runs for Cleveland

The Indians finished off their second four-game sweep at home in less than a month – they took four against Toronto from June 28-July 1. Detroit has lost five consecutive games.
