Matt Wieters went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven effective innings as the Baltimore Orioles began the Buck Showalter era in winning fashion with a 6-3 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels.

Luke Scott belted a two-run homer and Felix Pie collected two hits and scored twice for the Orioles, who halted a three-game losing streak and won for just the third time in their last 12 home contests.

Playing its first game under new manager Showalter, Baltimore fell behind as Howie Kendrick hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. But Wieters halved the deficit in the bottom half with an RBI double and the Orioles rallied for four runs in the sixth to move ahead for good.

Trevor Bell walked Ty Wigginton with one out and was replaced by Francisco Rodriguez (0-2), whose 3-2 offering following a balk was deposited over the right-center field wall by Scott for a 3-2 Baltimore lead. Josh Bell increased the advantage to three four batters later with a two-run double.

After the Angels got a run back in the seventh on Mike Napoli's RBI single, Wieters capped the scoring in the eighth with a run-scoring base hit.

Guthrie (5-11) won for just the second time in his last 12 starts, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out two without a walk.

Trevor Bell yielded two runs and four hits over 5 1/3 frames in just his second start of the year for the Angels, who have lost nine of 12 overall and 12 of their last 15 on the road.
