PHOENIX -- Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt hit a mammoth 466-foot home run Friday night, but it was a 90-foot sprint that made the biggest impression on manager Chip Hale.

Goldschmidt struck out but reached first on a passed ball in a game-tying, sixth-inning rally before capping a four-run seventh with a homer off the center field video board in a 6-4 victory over the Oakland A's at Chase Field.

"I truly believe we won that game because our guy, 'Goldy,' hustled on a strikeout," Hale said. "A lot of guys just get upset and walk back to the dugout. He saw that ball get away and busted it to first base. That, to me, epitomizes our club and that's why we play the way we play. He gives everything he has every night."

The Diamondbacks took advantage of two passed balls by catcher Stephen Vogt to score two unearned runs off right-hander Sonny Gray (12-6) to tie the score at 2 in the sixth inning.

With a runner on second and one out, Goldschmidt struck out on a slider that hit Vogt's glove but rolled far enough away that there was no play at first base. Left fielder David Peralta doubled in one run before catcher Welington Castillo's sacrifice fly tied the score.

"I think that's what we all try to do," Goldschmidt said. "We take a lot of pride in trying to play the game hard. That was one time it paid off. Probably nine out of 10 times they pick up the ball and throw you out at first. That one time helped us win.

"It's not just me. It's every single guy on this team. You don't want to be that one guy that doesn't hustle that lets them down. We hold each other accountable that way."

Second baseman Chris Owings and pinch-hitter Aaron Hill hit back-to-back doubles off Gray leading off the seventh to break at 2-2 tie. Center fielder A.J. Pollock singled with two outs off switch-pitcher Pat Venditte for a 4-2 lead to bring up Goldschmidt.

Goldschmidt's homer, his 26th of the season, hit the base of the video scoreboard in center field and was estimated at 466 feet. He leads the National League with 96 RBIs.

He has four homers in his last seven games after ending a dinger drought that lasted 22 games and 103 plate appearances, the longest of his career. He had a 471-foot homer off St. Louis right-hander John Lackey on Wednesday.

"There are days that you can just look absolutely out there horrible and days you can't get out," Goldschmidt said. "You look at the end of the year and it all evens outs."

Oakland third baseman Brett Lawrie hit a two-run homer estimated at 470 feet off David Hernandez in the ninth before Brad Ziegler entered to pick up his 24th save of the season and 22nd straight.

Gray (12-6) gave up four runs (two earned) in 6 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking two. He has lost two straight decisions for the second time this season. He had made 20 starts this season of two earned runs or fewer.

"He makes a great pitch to strike out the National League MVP, in my opinion, and I can't catch those freaking balls and keep them off first," Vogt said. "Obviously I am very frustrated with myself."

Right-hander Randall Delgado (5-3) pitched the seventh for the Diamondbacks (63-65).

Center fielder Billy Burns and first baseman Mark Canha had RBI doubles in the second inning off A's starter Chase Anderson.

A's shortstop Marcus Semien had two doubles and scored a run for Oakland (56-74), which has lost three in a row and five of seven.

Anderson gave up two runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out three and got 12 ground-ball outs.

NOTES: First-year Arizona manager Chip Hale spent six seasons with A's manager Bob Melvin, as the third base/infield coach in Arizona from 2007 to 2009 and as bench coach in Oakland from 2012 to 204. The two drove to the park together Friday. ... Arizona SS Nick Ahmed hit ninth in the order for the 10th time this season, the first time since Aug. 2. RHP Chase Anderson hit eighth. Hale has hit a position player ninth 14 times this season. ... Oakland will play without a DH in its last interleague road series of the season. A's pitchers were 0-for-3 Friday and are hitting .081 since the inception of interleague play in 1997, the lowest batting average in the majors.
